If you own a Omen 6,7,FR,7&FR Extreme, 006 Extreme or a Tempest Extreme

Then come in and drop a line, we all share the same hardware except the Omen series

has an extra 7 string and a floyd Rose and both floyd and 7 string models

added to the Extreme series as well.

anyone else who dos'nt own a extreme can also comment we will try and answer

any question you have on the Extreme Series of Schecter Guitars.

The reason I started this thread is that there are not many Extreme owners out

there and finding reviews and advice on these Schecter export models is

hard to find, hopfully this thread will remedy it. Welcome aboard

Hey, count me in.

I had this one:
Image

It's great guitar! I changed the pu to duncan JB and jazz. The jazz neck bought from my friend is taken from his red schecter jerry horton series.
I bought it used, and the previous owner add a killswitch on it which I liked.

If there any other Omen Extreme users, plz join us in this thread. Let the others know that the low budget schecter's guitar is also good and (IMHO) better than other guitars at the same prices! :D :D

-The little switch close to the tone pot are killswitch in "not-engaged" position :D
-The pot with no knobs close to the volume pot is a vary tone control, you can choose what caps you want to use.
I forgot the caps values on that vary tone, but I remember there is one 0.22uf :D
Honestly, I use it not to often. But if I roll the pot all the way up and split the neck pickup it sound close to fender strat on neck.

Hope it helps ;)

I used to have an Omen Extreme AMB.

Image

Very pretty guitar for the price. Other than the flashy looks and the coil tap, they are the same as the Omen-6s. Mine was a little beast with a DiMarzio Tone Zone in the bridge and PAF Pro in the neck. Those were put in after that picture, though. That was at the store where I got it. They were well worth the price tag, but as was said above, they aren't very common. Seems like they all ended up in Europe for some reason. Weird. Anyway, if you don't mind the bolt-on neck, grab one if you can find it.

Hello everyone,
I just got a schecter omen extreme that you see in the pic.I thought they were made in Korea but mine had a sticker "Made in China". Anyway the setup was excellent, the finish, colour etc.I didnt like the pickups cause they make very chunky sounds with heavy distortions. In clean channels they are nice and remind bluesy strat clean sounds.
I play for more that 11 years with 009 string gauge and this omen came with 10s.I am thinking to change the strings to 009 but i am sad about the wonderfull setup of the guitar, cause i have to re-setup the omen.I like the clean tone of the 10s but its a bit difficult to bend for blues.Or its me the problem that i'm used to play with 009s.I think the majority of guitarists play with 10s.
Can u suggest me a bridge pickup (mostly Dimarzio) that can play almost everything? I play some metal, some acoustic stuff, some blues, some Vai style, Rock stuff, etc.

Congrats. That's a really sharp looking guitar. I'm not a complete know-it-all, but I believe the Omen Extremes were in fact made in China. All Schecter Diamond Series models are Korean-made now, but this apparently hasn't always been the case. If you like nice bluesy clean sounds, I'd recommend sticking with the 10s. I play a lot of blues and I love my 10s. They took some getting used to, though. I used to play Ibanez RG models and they all came strung with 9s and I kept it that way and I HATED the 10s that came on my C-1 Artist for a couple of months. But I think they're great now. They have a lot more tone and now when I pick up a guitar with 9s on it, I can pull off 2 or 2 1/2 step bends (backing up my bends with my other fingers, mind you). The extra strength you build in your fingers from bending those 10s will help you dig in harder and play with more confidence. After all, Stevie Ray Vaughan used to string his guitars with 13s and he had blues tone to die for. I'd only use 9s on a guitar with a tremolo, personally. But it's all up to personal preference. I think I remember hearing Steve Vai's guitar tech saying something about Steve switching from 9s to 10s for a day or two and he never did it again. I guess if you have some high output pickups and a monster amp, it won't matter so much what your string gauges are. But with a clean tone, it's more noticeable. Even if you change to 9s, it shouldn't require much, if any, extra setup. Mine never really did. Anyway, as far as a DiMarzio bridge pickup that can do it all, I'd recommend a PAF Pro or a Tone Zone. The PAF Pros sound similar to a vintage Gibson pickup, but they're a bit more balanced and they have 4-conductor leads so you can use them with your coil tap. Tone Zones are a bit hotter, but they still have a nice clean sound and they're better for the heavier stuff. I've used both and they both sound great to me. I've never tried them in a mahogany-bodied guitar, though. Sounds interesting. Good luck.

Hi nick, if you want dimarzio to replace the stock pu, I recommend tone zone or drop sonic.
But if you change it to duncan's then try JB or duncan custom SH5 for tighter bottom end.

For strings, IMO, the 10s producing fatter tone when play distorted rhythm. More kkkrooaaankkk... hehehe, I don't know how to describe it.. :D
Years ago I played 09s, but when I switched to 10s i never want to change it back to 09s. I love how it sounds.

What is the spacing of the SH-4 JB? I measured my stock bridge pickup in the Omen an its 53mm and my strings are 51mm,so the last pole-pieces are a bit away from the 1st string. These stock pickups are total failure i can say.Dimarzio has their F-Spaced models exactly 51mm as my strings in that position,so it will be a perfect match if i buy one.But i couldnt find similar info about Duncan pickups and particilarly the SH-4 JB. Can someone tell me if he knows the spacing or if he can measure the poles in his guitar? (Those who have this pickup). ::)

No, don't use SH. Use the TB version. The TB spacing is same with DiMarzio's F-Spaced
TB = Trembucker™

Code:
Trembucker™ - A humbucking pickup designed with wider pole-to-pole spacing in order to accommodate guitars with vibrato systems or wider string spacing.

So if you planning to use duncans then you have to buy TB. I mean if you want Duncan JB SH4, then you have to look for Duncan JB TB4. If you want to use Duncan Custom SH5 then you have to look for Duncan Custom TB5. SH4 or SH5 and other SH on duncan are same string spacing as stock pickup.

Hope that help :D

Unless you want the correct pole spacing for cosmetic reasons, as standard-spaced pickup will work just as well as a trem spaced one.

Here's a diagram of the measurements on the Seymour Duncan SH-4 "JB" bridge pickup.

Image

And here's a diagram of the measurements on the Seymour Duncan TB-4 "JB" bridge pickup.

Image

They're in standard measurements, not metric. But it should be easy to convert. The SH-4 is the pickup I have in my bridge position on my C-1 Artist, which should have the same string spacing as an Omen-6. All Seymour Duncan SH (Standard Humbucker) models have a string spread of 1.930 inches or 49mm. The TB (Trembucker) or F-spaced models have a string spread of 2.070 inches or 52.6mm. Hope that helps.

Standard as in American (i.e. inches)? Because I thought metric was standard.

Thank you for the diagrams,i had already seen them and converted them too.I'm concerned only about the poles of the pickups and to match with my strings. As i read in many sites if your string spacing is more that 50mm in the bridge, then you go for F-spaced or Trembuckers pickups. And all say that these pickups are used mainly in guitars with tremolos. My guitar has a fixed bridge as you can see in the photo i posted. How happened then for my guitar to have 51mm spacing? See the pic of my guitar pickup below.Im a bit confused for what to buy,but i think more votes go to trembuckers/F-Spaced.What do you think?

Well, I would go with the SH-4 if it were me. That's what Schecter puts in their C-1 XXX, C-1 Artist, C-1 Blackjack, and C-1 Classic models. All four of those guitars have TonePros Model #T3BT bridges (metric, large post, pre-notched saddles) and according to TonePros, the string spacing on these bridges is 2.047", which is exactly the same spacing as on the Schecter/Gotoh bridges used on the Omen-6s. It seems to me that the string spacing on the C-1s and the Omen-6s would be the same, then. And if the SH-4 fits and works perfectly in the C-1s, it should be just right for your Omen-6.

Hi, I'm a noobie. A dyed in the wool Fender man, but I've just got an 006 Extreme. I'm very impressed - it's certainly a lot of guitar for the money. However, is it a discontinued model because there's nothing about it on the Schecter website?

There is, but you must change location in the website and not visit the USA site.Choose for example "Korea" in the location slider & you will see all the extremes and their specs.

Yup, right man. Just like what you said, it's only for cosmetic reason. Just because I love to see it right below my strings.. :D
And for ears like me there is not much different in tone. In fact, I never tested it because I don't want to spend some money on the same duncans... hehehehe... :D

But, IMO, I think there is a different in tone for some people.
Remember EVH's frankenstrat or EVH Baretta Kramer? Look at his slanted non-trem spaced bridge pickup. Why he positioned it slanted like that? I believe it's not (only) for cosmetic reasons.
I think he wants it to be able to pickup the strings vibration better and the non-trem spaced pickup with normal position cannot satisfy him since it's pole pieces not sit right below the strings. With slanted position, the pole pieces can pickup the string vibration better. After the trem-spaced pickup being found (by Dimarzio or Duncan?) his later pickup position was normal and not slanted. Check this site: http://www.vintagekramer.com/baretta1.htm :D
