I haven't played around with the s-1.
But if you can play with the tempest neck, I don't think it can get any worse from there.
Most of schecter's necks are the same D shape though
Did the neck shape of the S-1 change with the S-1 Custom model? I really like the previous model, with the trans-cherry look but the amber S-1 Custom is nice, too. I'd appreciate any S-1 users commenting on *these* neck shapes, please; 2009-2012 models. I'm looking at one of these to replace/backup my 2009 Tempest Custom, which has a Gibson 60's slim taper feel to it. Thanks!

I don't have an S-1 but I have a Hellraiser Solo-6 and I'm pretty sure the necks on the Tempest, Solo-6 and S-1 models are about the same. The neck on my HR Solo-6 is a bit thicker than the C-1 and almost feels like a LP neck. I hope somebody can help you out.
P.S.---Where is your Avatar and signature? Do you plan on sticking around?????![]()

Not related to this post but......after teaching my guitar lessons this afternoon, I ran by Guitar Center on the way home. I played a C-1 Std & C-1 Custom (for the second time in several months) to refresh my memory as to how they feel. I'm very familiar with a 2009 C-1 Plus a friend has. It, too, has a slim neck. Anyway, I'm disappointed in the current model C-1 Std/Custom necks & especially in those 'medium' frets. Absolutely not for me. I'm going to have to look at other Schecters with Xtra jumbos at minimum.

All of the Schecters I own have 24 Extra Jumbo frets. I will not go back to Med frets or anything under 24 frets ever again, lol.

Hmm I'm not keen on necks that are very thin. I kind of like fret boards that are a wide high up as I find them easier to play. Too thin is uncomfortable after a playing for a while so its all about the right balance for me.

I like a 22 fret neck on a 24-3/4" which is why the S-1 gets my attention. But like I said earlier, after playing the "medium" frets I've re-adjusted my SCHECTER lust list. The Extra Jumbo Fret spec is a standard requirement for me for any future SCHECTER. I'm not paying $699 for an S-1 & then another $200 to re-fret it. Another standard requirement for me: the straight string headstock as on the C-1 Std for example. My 2009 Tempest Custom binds on the G string frequently, as many 3-per-side headstocks without a straight string angle are prone to do. So it looks like the Hellraiser C-1, Hellraiser Extreme C-1, & Hellraiser Special C-1 are my choices now. I hope these are all KOREAN made!!
