Mahogany Body---Maple is heavy ask Pete, you'll have to chamber it for weight relief and put a veneer top on it
Maple w/skunk stripe Neck
Ebony Fretboard
24 XJ frets
28" in scale
So I know I want to build a guitar. The neck is what has me so worried though.
So im just going to plunge right on in and try it.
What woods should I try?
I was thinking a hard maple with a skunk stripe?
And what fretboard material should I use?
While i'm at it why not just try to make a 8 string neck?
Suggestions?

Burled Walnut if it's thick enough would be sweet. I vote for a Bloodwood Fretboard though

Burled walnut would look nice but I've found it to be highly unstable. Every piece I've come across has needed to be stabilized with epoxy. I can't imagine using it solely for the body wood...or the astronomical cost of acquiring such a piece. Which isn't to say that it wouldn't work. (I know you're probably well aware of this but I figured I'd mention it for others that aren't familiar with burled woods.)
A maple skunk stripe neck would be neat. Do you have a radius jig for routing the curved truss rod channel?
"You're an idiot, Dick."
Nope but my teacher said he has everything I need.
If I need anything ill buy it I guess.
Got any links to any recommended tools you think I should acquire?
