    I couldn't help myself

If I may hijack my thread back...

    Look and weep boys

    Sorry just had to.

Ended up getting it for $950AUD. I tried for $900 but he didn't even want to sell it believe it or not as he'd been tossing up whether to keep it. He said he doesn't like the black and wants to try and find the red version which is why he initially listed it not realising how rare they are to find for sale. His music room was like a candy shop of guitars - I kid you not. It was a shed/garage lined and sound proofed. He had around 30 guitars of various brands and types on display. He had a Schecter C-1 Classic sitting there too... I asked if it was for sale but it wasn't. He did let me have a play of it though - very nice. All along the walls on the floor was about 15 amps. Mostly small stacks with various low watt boutique heads and cabinets. A few Marshalls, a Blackstar as well... then he had a custom made pedalboard set up like something from starship enterprise. About 4 rows/layers of pedals, probably 15 in each row in a slight semi circle. All hooked up to this custom made amp switch box, all the wiring to the amps was under the floor. This guy doesn't play in a band, just jams in this room, has mates over apparently. He was saying that he initially had about 50 guitars but has sold quite a few so far to make room for more he wants to get. I was pretty dumbfounded by his setup and the amount of money this guys has poured into it. Funny thing was he played a few of the guitars and he wasn't even all that good! LOL!

So as for my new HC git... it seems in great nick for a 5 year old guitar. Very minor surface marks which you'd probably even find buying a new guitar that's been on display at a shop played by greasy fingered snot nose wannabe kids. There's only one small ding which is on the bass horn up on the top side but not overly noticeable. It'll get many more over the next years as I can see it becoming my main go-to electric for practice sessions and gigs. The hardware has been a bit neglected, has traces of this white stuff (I assume it's oxidisation) on the bridge and tuners, it does come off with a rub of the polishing cloth though. The setup seems spot on and it feels pretty much like the 35th to play which is what I wanted. I'm yet to plug it into my blackstar to give it a good work out and to see what the SD pups sound like in it. Be interested to A/B it against the EMG's in the 35th C-1 too. I have a practice session tomorrow with another band I've been asked to fill in for for an upcoming gig so I'm looking forward to it's first live tryout.

Comparing it next to the 35th, makes me wonder why they went solid black on the anniversary model and not see-through black like on the HC... looks much better - but hey, I'm not complaining, I didn't even pay for it

That's great, I'm sure you will love the HC pups. Would you be good enough to post a list of the pro's and con's sometime?

Been playing with the Ultima Classic. love it but I keep mentally comparing it to my HC which is still my weapon of choice. If I shut my eyes they are difficult to tell apart but the HC has a nice and "worn in" feel and the Ultima feels like the new guitar that it is. I just don't feel it is mine yet. I have noticed that the Ultima feels great when playing standing up. It feels a bit lighter and because it is big and flat it stays put while moving around-well balanced.

Both of them sound so bright I need to wear shades when playing them. I'm disappointed that the Ultima doesn't fit my guitar case so I now need another. I'll do a comparison sometime soon.
