EMG 81 in the neck position

So, I had a suspicion that my Avenger Devil Prototype had EMG 81's in both the neck and bridge position. I decide today that I was going to do a string change and take both pups out to see if I was right. The answer is YES is has 2 EMG 81's installed. The EMG 81 in the neck sounds great! I know a few guys in the forum were saying that they put the EMG 81 in the neck position and the 85 in the bridge. I know that I'm now going to remove my EMG 85 from my Damien Elite-6 FR and replace it with an EMG 81.

I don't remember who got the FR version of my guitar from that auction and I want to know what pups it came with. I wonder if Schecter meant to put 2 81's in this guitar. I am completely happy with this setup.

85 in the bridge = chunky goodness
81 in the neck = amazing cleans.

I could swap the pups around on the Damien and see what that sounds like. That will wait until the next string change. I still have the Skinny Top Heavy Bottoms still on it and I put those on 2 months ago.

My Devil Fr Proto has a pair of 81's as well (it was listed on ebay as such) and they sound great! My hellraiser avenger and my hellraiser v1 limited both have 81/85 sets yet sound like completely different guitars. The avenger has much deeper/darker tones. I suppose that is due to the shapes tho, not to metion the huge weight diffence in the two. The v is mahogany but feels lighter than my bass wood guitars. The Devil by far has become my favorite to play! Love the feel of the Avengers and the 81's sound GREAT!!! Jason (DCGL) will be shipping my Devil 8 Proto tomorrow, ill put some pics up when it comes in.

Cool, I can't wait to see the new guitar. I have to agree that the Avenger Devil is quickly becoming my favorite to play. If you ever decide that you are bored with that Avenger Devil FR Proto let me know, I'll give it a good home, lol.

Where is the number on EMG's. I have a Dean hardtail with chrome covered actives and should take a look inside and find what I actually have.

You have to pull out the pup and look on the bottom of it.
