    Syn Special Frets Flat?

I made an account on this forum just to talk about this, so help is appreciated.

So, I'm gonna breeze through how my experience with this guitar has been until now.

I bought it from guitar center. After a month or so of playing I noticed the floyd rose was falling out of tune, so I took it back to guitar center. They told me the floyd rose needed replacement, so I had to send it to Schecter. I sent it to them, they couldn't fix it, so they sent me a new guitar. The whole process including guitar center's part took about a month.

This new guitar seemed perfect at first, and I told that to Schecter. But after some playing I noticed the frets are flat. I'm not really experienced with these types of things, so my question is, is that a bad thing? Should I complain to them again in hopes of them fixing it, or should I leave it be?

Other than the first string occasionally slipping off the fretboard while I'm playing and some fret buzz here and there, the guitar's a beauty to play. But the string slipping and fret buzz is kind of annoying. So, what do you guys suggest I should do? Are flat frets a bad thing? And, does anyone else have this problem?

My 2011 Syn Specials frets are like that too. Same with my 2006 Damien.
But my 2009 SheDevil has completely rounded ones.
I would assume it to be better than just rounded ones, as the strings would contact the fret better.
And it probably depends on the model you buy.

If it plays fine leave it alone lol

That's incredible. They look like they were never properly crowned and dressed. Are they polished? I can't really tell from the photos. They almost look rough in the first photo.

When you fret a guitar you need to level the frets after installation--I use Stick-It paper on radiused blocks to do the job--which leaves them flat on the top, as seen on yours. But after that you need to smooth them out and round them over (and then polish them of course). It looks like they said "screw it" and didn't bother crowning them. Which would explain the fret buzz. And it doesn't look like they put a lot of care into beveling the ends which could be a factor in the string slipping off (though the nut is frequently the cause of such an issue). Do the strings "grab" when you bend a note?

Flat frets--when uniform and smooth--aren't a bad thing. A bunch of my vintage guitars had flattened frets and I actually liked them that way. (And of course Mosrite offered "speed frets" which were awesome.)

No, the strings don't grab at all; they do seem to be polished; they're nice and smooth. I don't mind the flat frets much to be honest, and from what the post above you says, it's not just my guitar; his model has it too. Though I'm not completely sure if it's because they did it purposely or because they were too lazy to actually crown them, like you said.

I have a Syn Special, and the frets on mine are also flat. I haven't had any problems with it going out of tune or with the strings grabbing or anything.

I would imagine that this means they're supposed to be flat. I can't believe every model has flat frets due to someone being lazy.

Well then I guess flat frets isn't a problem then o.O What about the fret buzz? I feel like the strings are simply too close to the fretboard, maybe that's why?

Mine had a tiny little bit of fret buzz, but after I changed the strings to my preferred gauge and rebalanced the FR, it went away.

I'd say make sure your FR is parallel with the body. If it already is and it's still buzzing, the action can be changed pretty easily at the bridge with a hex key.

Schecter has a video showing how to adjust the action with a FR. Jump to about the halfway point to go right to the FR.
